L’autre jour, je rentrais dans mon hôtel après un repas dans un bon restaurant parisien, il était autour de 23h00. Puisque je me lève très tôt le matin, je n’avais qu’une seule envie, aller au lit.
J’étais complètement abasourdi de voir les terrasses pleines à craquer à 23h00 en pleine semaine. La clientèle avait de toute évidence entre 20 ans et 30 ans. L’alcool coulait à flots et la fumée de cigarette envahissait l’atmosphère.
La première question qui m’est venue à l’esprit était la suivante : dans quel état seront ces personnes demain matin quand ils arriveront au travail ou à l’université ?
Quand tu as 20 ans, ta machinerie est encore neuve (expression pour parler du corps humain), donc tu peux d’une certaine façon en abuser sans trop souffrir dans l’immédiat. Ainsi, si tu manques de sommeil à cause d’une soirée bien arrosée qui se termine trop tard, tu seras capable de récupérer assez rapidement.
Le piège, c’est de croire qu’il n’y aura pas de conséquences sur le métabolisme ou sur le corps dans les années à venir. L’impact néfaste du manque de sommeil, de la cigarette à 20 ans ne se manifestera pas dans la prochaine année tout comme boire trop d’alcool, donc il est facile de se faire piéger à croire qu’il n’y aura pas d’effets suite à ces excès.
Il y a quelque temps, je suis allé visiter quelqu’un à l’hôpital. Je voyais des personnes intubées, mal en point, avec des problèmes respiratoires, des cancers ou d’autres maladies. Je peux t’assurer que l’atmosphère n’était pas à la fête comme celle de ces personnes assises à la terrasse ce soir-là.
Je ne suis pas un spécialiste de la santé, et je n’oserais pas m’aventurer sur ce terrain, mais plusieurs études confirment que notre style de vie d’aujourd’hui affecte notre santé de demain.
Une personne entre 20 et 30 ans qui fait la fête tous les soirs, se prive de sommeil, fume, boit de l’alcool en grande quantité et carbure au Redbull pour fonctionner pendant la journée risque d’avoir de très mauvaises surprises au niveau de sa santé dans la quarantaine ou cinquantaine et d’expérimenter également un vieillissement prématuré.

Mon père a toujours gardé ses voitures très longtemps. Il n’a jamais eu de problèmes mécaniques majeurs avec elles, même quand elles sont devenues vieilles. Il m’a toujours dit : « la clé de la longévité d’une voiture est la façon dont tu l’entretiens dès le départ. » Il en est de même avec ton corps.
Si tu devais miser sur un jeune de 20 ans, sur qui miserais-tu ? Sur celui qui reste jusqu’à la fermeture des bars tous les soirs, qui fume, qui boit et qui brûle la chandelle par les deux bouts, ou sur celui qui va au lit à 23h00 et qui se lève à 6h00 pour aller à la salle de sport, qui risque de bien vieillir et sera en meilleure condition dans la quarantaine et la cinquantaine ?
L’idée n’est pas de vivre une vie de moine tibétain et de s’enfermer dans un monastère. Mais, il s’agit de gérer notre corps comme notre atout le plus important et de veiller à bien l’alimenter, en prendre soin, et penser à long terme.
Je t’encourage à aller faire un tour à l’hôpital. À chaque fois que j’y vais, j’ai un désir après de prendre soin de ma santé au maximum.
Évite cette erreur commune de penser que tu peux abuser de ton corps, le priver de repos, le surmener, lui faire consommer toute sorte de substances toxiques en te disant que ce n’est pas grave.
Pense à comment tu veux être dans ta quarantaine et cinquantaine. L’autre jour, je faisais du vélo, et je me suis fait dépasser par un cycliste ultra performant. Il devait avoir assurément la soixantaine. Il ne le sait pas, mais il m’a profondément inspiré. Je me suis dit, je veux être comme ça quand j’aurai 60 ans.
On ne veut pas avoir du bon temps seulement dans notre vingtaine, mais toute notre vie. C’est génial dans la soixantaine d’avoir la santé et l’énergie pour voyager, faire du sport, manger dans des bons restaurants, servir le Seigneur et profiter à fond de la vie.
Choisis aujourd’hui d’être différent. Choisis la santé, décide de prendre soin de ton « temple » comme un trésor précieux.
Ton futur te dira merci comme toi-même, c’est certain.
