Je me souviens, il y a quelques années, avoir été profondément inspiré par un agent d’entretien, dans les toilettes d’un aéroport d’Afrique du Sud. Il portait fièrement un nœud papillon à son cou et accueillait avec un sourire exubérant et une attitude exceptionnelle tous ceux qui franchissaient la porte.
J’étais sidéré, car au cours de mes nombreux voyages, 100 % de ceux que j’avais vus faire ce travail similaire ne semblaient pas heureux de le faire et ceux arborant le sourire étaient très rares. En observant cet homme, je comprenais tout de suite que son bonheur ne se fondait pas sur son statut social ou son emploi. Au contraire, il se basait sur le sentiment de faire quelque chose qui contribuait aux autres et d’être dans un environnement connecté à sa personnalité.
J’appelle cela « être dans son couloir ». Ainsi, je suis persuadé que si cet homme était confiné devant un ordinateur toute la journée, privé de contacts humains, son niveau d’enthousiasme et de joie aurait drastiquement baissé.
L’un des principes essentiels à l’algorithme du bonheur est de connaître et de se tenir dans un couloir qui nous correspond.
Mais le Seigneur lui dit : Va, car cet homme est un instrument que j’ai choisi, pour porter mon nom devant les nations, devant les rois, et devant les fils d’Israël ; et je lui montrerai tout ce qu’il doit souffrir pour mon nom.
Actes 9:15-16
Dans ce texte, nous voyons Dieu annoncer clairement le couloir de vie de celui qui deviendra le célèbre « apôtre Paul ». Dans l’énoncé de mission, nous constatons exactement ce à quoi se consacrera par la suite Paul. Il voyagera dans les nations. Il rendra témoignage devant les rois et les fils d’Israël. Il souffrira également sur la route de sa destinée.
Mais lorsque nous observons attentivement la vie de l’apôtre, il n’y a aucun doute que sa joie, son état d’esprit et son bonheur rayonnaient. Il est certain que si Paul avait refusé cette vie d’aventure et de risques et que pour x raisons, il avait choisi une vie sédentaire, prévisible et sans trop de souffrance, cela aurait assurément affecté son niveau de bonheur. Paul a été heureux dans un écosystème où bien d’autres avaient été malheureux, car il était tout simplement dans son couloir, celui que Dieu avait prévu pour lui.
As-tu ce sentiment d’être exactement en train de faire ce pour quoi tu as été créé ?
Contrairement à Abraham qui se déplaçait avec une armada de personnes et de troupeaux, Paul voyageait léger et n’avait personne à sa charge. Deux styles de vie, deux parcours différents. L’idée n’est pas de privilégier l’un au détriment de l’autre, mais de trouver celui qui nous correspond et de bâtir notre vie à l’intérieur des paramètres de notre couloir.
Je me souviens d’un reportage sur des gens qui avaient changé leur vie. Il y avait une famille qui avait vendu son appartement au cœur d’une grande capitale pour devenir agriculteurs à la campagne. Un avocat, lui, avait quitté sa pratique pour devenir viticulteur. Un homme d’affaires avec une vie à 100 à l’heure était devenu écrivain. En bref, ces personnes avaient soudainement décidé de recentrer leur vie à l’intérieur d’un couloir qui leur correspondait davantage.
Trop souvent nous laissons les apparences, les influences extérieures, les pressions sociales définir notre trajectoire de vie et nous nous retrouvons à faire quelque chose et à vivre une vie qui n’est pas alignée avec qui nous sommes et avec le plan de Dieu pour nous.
Même avec les finances, la sécurité d’emploi, le confort matériel et l’approbation de notre entourage, si nous ne sommes pas dans notre couloir de destinée, notre bonheur en sera assurément affecté, et ce de façon considérable, car il y aura toujours ce sentiment de vide ou d’insatisfaction. Paul, malgré les incertitudes constantes de son agenda mouvementé, malgré les persécutions, malgré l’instabilité de sa vie, était un homme heureux, car il était au cœur de son couloir de destinée.
Qu’en est-il de ta vie ? As-tu ce sentiment d’être exactement en train de faire ce pour quoi tu as été créé ? As-tu dans ton for intérieur cette plénitude qu’apporte une vie centrée sur le plan divin ? Tu peux aujourd’hui réaligner tes priorités, voire même changer de couloir si celui dans lequel tu es n’est pas celui qui t’est destiné. Ton bonheur en dépend.
Ne fais rien dans la précipitation. Mais si tu te sens interpellé, commence à faire des plans pour changer ta réalité. Découvre le couloir qui est le tien, et peu importe ce que penseront et diront les gens autour de toi, lance-toi dans la direction de ce couloir et tu verras ton niveau de joie augmenter de façon significative.
