Il y a quelques années, l’histoire captivante de Alastair Humphreys m’a inspiré. Au lieu de faire comme tout le monde, ce jeune aventurier britannique a décidé, à la fin de ses études, de plutôt chevaucher son vélo et de faire le tour du monde.
Pendant 4 ans et 74 000 km, il a fait un périple, vécu une aventure qui a changé sa vie et donné le ton à sa vie future. Il raconte comment au début les gens autour de lui ne le comprenaient pas, et comment cette aventure a transformé sa vision de la vie et est devenue l’une de ses plus grandes fiertés.
Une des erreurs fréquentes chez les 20 à 30 ans, c’est de vouloir faire comme tout le monde, de céder aux pressions de l’entourage et de vouloir se conformer aux standards de la majorité.
« Trouve-toi un bon emploi, sécurise ton avenir, fais des bébés, pense au mariage avant d’être trop âgé » est un discours que l’on entend souvent et qui pousse plusieurs à étouffer certains rêves qui brûlent dans leur cœur et les empêche d’explorer.
Le projet de Humphreys peut te sembler extrême et ne te correspond peut-être pas, mais pourquoi ne pas profiter de la saison 20-30 ans pour faire quelque chose d’audacieux qui sera beaucoup plus difficile quand tu seras aspiré dans le match de la vie avec toutes les responsabilités qui viennent avec (carrière, factures, famille).
Pourquoi ne pas prendre un temps sabbatique et aller en mission à l’étranger ? Pourquoi ne pas faire un voyage d’exploration ? Pourquoi ne pas t’impliquer bénévolement pendant quelque temps dans une œuvre sociale quelconque ?
Pourquoi ne pas aller vivre pendant quelque temps dans un autre pays afin d’élargir ta culture et tes horizons ? Pourquoi ne pas prendre ta guitare, faire un album et partir autour du monde pendant 2 ans à aller bénir des églises avec ton ministère ?
Pourquoi ne pas prendre une année sabbatique, écrire un livre, produire un blogue et libérer l’artiste en toi ? Tu auras le reste de ta vie pour te trouver un emploi, gagner de l’argent et vivre une vie « normale » si cela te dit.
Entre 20 et 30 ans, c’est la meilleure saison pour expérimenter, explorer et oser sortir des sentiers battus
Pourquoi pas est la question qu’un jeune âgé de 20 à 30 ans devrait se poser. Quand tu as une maison à payer, des enfants à ta charge, un époux, une épouse, des charges familiales, tu ne peux plus aussi facilement dire : « pourquoi pas ! » C’est encore possible, mais tu imposes alors à tes proches tes expériences et ce n’est peut-être pas ce qu’ils désirent vivre.
Mais quand tu as entre 20 et 30 ans et que tu décides de partir à l’aventure, de réaliser un rêve, de faire quelque chose d’audacieux, c’est rarement quelque chose que tu regrettes par la suite.
Évidemment, avant de te lancer dans quelque chose de majeur, il est impératif de consulter Dieu afin d’être certain qu’Il est dans le projet et de t’éviter des soucis ou une mauvaise direction.

Mais si tu as le feu vert de Dieu, pourquoi pas ?
Quand tu seras plus vieux, tu seras heureux de raconter à tes enfants, à tes amis, à tes employés ou collègues de travail ce projet audacieux que tu as réalisé dans ta vingtaine.
Quand tu seras dans le tourbillon (métro – boulot – dodo), tu te rappelleras cette aventure à l’autre bout du monde, ce fameux voyage, ce défi que tu as relevé, ce projet que tu as amené à l’existence, ce livre, cet album, ces quelques mois sur le champ missionnaire.
Ne fais pas l’erreur de plusieurs de suivre simplement le flot de la majorité, de tout de suite t’enchainer dans les responsabilités de la vie.
Plusieurs se réveillent dans la quarantaine avec un profond désir de vivre ces choses et regrettent amèrement ne pas l’avoir fait entre 20 et 30 ans.
Entre 20 et 30 ans, c’est la meilleure saison pour expérimenter, explorer et oser sortir des sentiers battus.
La grande question à te poser aujourd’hui est : pourquoi pas ?
